Derby time is quickly approaching which, for those of us in Louisville, means a lot of diverse and exciting events are coming up to celebrate one of Louisville’s proudest traditions. The Waterfront Jam Friday concert is a part of those events, and features a great lineup of musicians across genres for your viewing enjoyment.

The concert will feature pop musician Daya and the musical duo of Tryon. This event is also a part of the Kentucky Derby Festival Water Front Jam which goes from Thursday, April 27 to Friday, May 5th. The Kentucky Derby Festival Water Front Jam includes some local and regional bands as well as numerous national level performers, all right on the gorgeous Louisville Water Front

Like many events in the Kentucky Derby lineup, this event is free for those who have a 2017 Kentucky Derby pin.

The Balloon Glow Returns!

The Great Balloon Glow

The Balloon Glow is one of the most exciting events in the Kentucky Derby Festival lineup. With last year’s glow attracting over 50,000 people, this year is set to be bigger and better than ever. The event is hosted to raise anticipation for the Balloon race, which happens the following day at 7 AM.

Rows with dozens of hot air balloons will be grounded and lit up for the viewing and enjoyment of those in attendance. Gorgeous colors, designs, and unique takes on the hot air balloon will be displayed. The pilots and some owners of the hot air balloons will be there to talk, answer questions, and show off their amazing balloons.  

While gates open at 6 PM, the actual glow won’t begin until 9. Admission to the event is free with a 2017 Pegasus Pin, and parking for the event is listed at $8.

ThunderBlast is a great way for everyone to enjoy the amazing and unique spectacle that is Thunder over Louisville. For those who may not know, Thunder over Louisville is a very special night in the city where the bridges and area over the Ohio River in downtown Louisville become the center for all manner of entertainment, including airshows, performances, and of course, fireworks!

ThunderBlast is a special opportunity for those who get tickets to watch the show from the comfort and convenience of the Kentucky Science Center, offering indoor restrooms, a smoke-free environment, exclusive food truck options, and other amenities that can be hard to come by at Thunder over Louisville. Tickets are limited and expected to go fast, so be sure to grab yours as Thunder over Louisville approaches.

Cincinnati Reds Play Exhibition Against The Louisville Bats

What: A fun afternoon at the ballpark

Where: Louisville Slugger Field (401 East Main Street)

Who: Anyone interested in a great game mixing local and professional Baseball

Next Friday the Cincinnati Reds and the Louisville Bats faceoff in an exhibition game for America’s favorite pastime. This is a great opportunity (and the last!) to see the Reds play before opening day of the new season, and to see Louisville’s own team test out their skills.

The first 5,000 fans to come to the game will be able receive a free bobble head of Reds first basemen and left fielder Adam Duvall. The game starts at 6:15 PM, so be sure to head to the park early! This is a limited availability to one per person.

Illusionists come from Broadway to the Kentucky Center

The Illusionists

The Illusionists are a collective of death-defying magicians and showmen straight from Broadway. Each performer brings their own unique skillset and flair to the show, employing everything from handcuffing themselves inside of tanks of water to suspension from unbelievable heights in order to amaze their audiences.

The Illusionists will perform for roughly two and a half hours, showcasing their amazing levitations, disappearances, and daring escapes.

Old school video games and all things retro are coming back to Louisville for the seventh year of the Louisville Arcade Expo. Everything from classic arcade games, retro video game consoles, and pinball machines can be found at the exposition, and these games are begging to be played.

If you pre-register before Saturday February 18th, you will be able to receive a discounted price for entry, either for induvial days or entire weekend passes. Once you have your tickets, you will have full access to dozens of amazing games that have the power to bring back great memories from your childhood.

Join the talented members from the Kentucky Opera as they perform alongside selected fourth grade students from Wheeler Elementary, performing song and dance from such celebrated Gilbert and Sullivan pieces as The Mikado and The Pirates of Penzance.

The skilled thespians of Kentucky Shakespeare will also be performing Midsummer Night’s Dream in a way that is interactive for the children in the audience. Children in grades K-8 will be given the special opportunity to perform alongside the actors!
